Virtual Machines

Overview

Proxmox VE hosts several known QEMU virtual machines. As of June 22, 2026, VM 100 router is the active OPNsense firewall. Older VM 110 pfsense references are historical unless revalidated.

VM 102 revit

Windows Server 2022 media is attached. Its business owner, application role, backup requirement, and expected power state are to be verified.

VM 113 rsat-pc

Windows Server 2022 guest with a snapshot named before-domain-join. Confirm whether it remains the supported remote administration tools workstation.

VM 5000 ubuntu-cloud

Cloud-init template used to provision Ubuntu guests. Review embedded account and SSH-key configuration before cloning.

Operational Procedures

qm list
qm status <VMID>
qm config <VMID>
qm start <VMID>
qm shutdown <VMID>

Use qm shutdown for a graceful stop. Use qm stop only when the guest cannot shut down normally.

Troubleshooting

  • Check qm status <VMID> and the Proxmox task log.
  • Confirm the configured storage is active with pvesm status.
  • Confirm the bridge exists before changing a NIC.
  • Do not start an unverified VM until its IP conflict and dependency risk are understood.
